Welcome to the KCC website

Kilcoy Country Companions is a respite centre for Kilcoy and surrounding communities, offering a day respite service for the frail aged and younger people with a disability as well as rural, socially isolated, aged people. HACC eligibility criteria apply.

Other services through KCC include home maintenance and modifications, equipment loans and podiatry and physiotherapy services.

KCC's History

KCC started in January 1996 with 2 participants in the Day Respite program, a desk, 2 chairs,  phone, and a steel cupboard.  The mini bus was borrowed from the local Aged Care Facility, Aloaka and 2 employees.  This all occurred on 2 days per week at the Kilcoy Hospital Nurses Quarters.  KCC was a parish affiliate of Anglicare the community welfare arm of the Synod of the Corporation of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane.  We are funded by the Home And Community Care program which is a State and Federal Government initiative.

Twelve years on we are in our own building, built in 2004/5, 4 permanent employees, are open 5 days per week, have our own bus for transporting the Day Respite people to KCC and home again daily.  We also have 2 cars, using volunteer drivers, which take people to medical and social appointments and shopping. KCC receives much support from volunteer helpers from the local community with out whom we could not provide the service that we do.  There is also a small equipment loan service, giving people the opportunity to trial pieces, save for their own purchase while using KCC equipment, or have time to wait for ordered things to come from MASS (Medical Aids Supply Scheme).

The Home Maintenance, Home Modification, Podiatry and Physiotherapy  funding was added a couple of years after the initial service began.  KCC can offer a comprehensive list of support services to the local frail aged person, younger person with a disability and their carer. This enables them to continue to live in their own home for as long as possible, by doing all the little thing that are needed to be done around the house, which they once did themselves, so they may continue to live independently.
